In this internet age, having a website that works for your organization or business is borderline essential. Not just because a website is an easy place to route email marketing or post your latest newsletters, but because it is a digital representation of your organization that anyone can find. You may not have given any thought to the design of your website when it was initially constructed, but many web design agencies will tell you the truth when discussing how important web design can be to users interacting with your site.

The design of your website, rather than the local SEO content or other items, may make or break users interacting with it. In fact, according to a recent poll, approximately 38% of online users will simply stop interacting with a website if its layout is unattractive in some way. This makes sense because nobody likes to be confronted with a cluttered mess or unattractive colors. It is the same reason that some colors of cars aren’t sold very often, such as yellow or purple. There is a psychology as to why people are drawn to certain colors/designs and not others.

In this brief article we’ll go over why it’s important to have a clean looking website, and how you can go about hiring web design agencies to help you achieve that goal. You needn’t spend a fortune to achieve this, but you should have some goals in mind that you want to hit. To go in blindly and without a goal will just end up costing you more per billable hour. Let your imagination go wild, then temper it down with practical steps!

Why Website Design Is So Important

Web design is important not just for initial content marketing (posting things on your site for the general public to see), but from a psychology perspective on how your organization is perceived. If a website is designed terribly and hard to navigate, many people will extrapolate that onto your organization as a whole. While it might not seem fair, it is simply how the human mind works under these circumstances. Hence why it is so important to query multiple web design agencies to get the best price and perspective on how to move forward.

There is no “right way” to design a website, as there are many clean and clever designs with multiple color schemes. However, there are certainly many “wrong ways” to own and operate a website. Using outdated programming languages or design schemes (say, from 1998) is a surefire way to get users to leave your website and go somewhere else. There are certainly classic designs that are timeless, and others that are simply outdated. Web design agencies that are worth their salt will help you tell the difference.

Classic Colors And Designs To Consider

When it comes to websites, there has been some research done on what designs and color schemes tend to attract the most user interaction. Web design agencies and other experts in the field tend to agree the dominant color should be white, with black or other colors overlaid on top of it. This helps the text or other images “pop” onto the screen and delight users when interacting with it.

Picking colors to use can also be great, but they must be chosen carefully. Using too many colors will end up being distracting or nauseating to some users, and really only work on certain types of sites (say for instance, an art website). Your color scheme should reflect your organization, brand, or business. For example, if you own a lawn care business it would make sense that the dominant color on your website would be green on top of white. Not only does this make sense, but it intrinsically makes your user associate your website with what you do (in this case, provide lawn care).

It can also be difficult to figure out how to design a website appropriately. Many web design agencies tend to think that “less is more” when it comes to things like this, and support attractive minimalist designs that are easy to navigate. While you can always add more things, less tends to be more in these situations.
